Compression Socks for Everyday Support and Improved Circulation
Compression socks are designed to apply gentle pressure to the legs and feet, helping promote healthy blood flow while reducing swelling, fatigue, and discomfort. They are commonly recommended for individuals with varicose veins, edema, diabetes, prolonged sitting or standing, pregnancy, travel, and post-surgical recovery.
At McCann’s Medical, we offer a range of graduated compression socks and stockings in different compression strengths, lengths, and styles to provide the right balance of comfort and therapeutic support.
Benefits of Compression Socks
Compression socks may help:
- Improve circulation and blood flow
- Reduce swelling in the feet, ankles, and legs
- Relieve tired, achy, or heavy legs
- Support varicose veins and mild venous insufficiency
- Help prevent blood clots during travel or periods of inactivity
- Provide support during pregnancy
- Improve comfort for people who spend long hours sitting or standing

15–20 mmHg (Moderate Compression)
The most popular everyday compression level.

20–30 mmHg compression is sometimes prescribed by a healthcare provider and may be recommended under medical supervision.
30–40 mmHg (Extra Firm Compression)
Higher-level therapeutic support.
Typically used for:
- Severe edema
- Advanced venous disease
- Lymphedema
- Post-thrombotic syndrome
These garments are generally used under physician guidance.
How to Measure for Compression Socks
Proper sizing is essential for comfort and effectiveness. Measurements should ideally be taken first thing in the morning before swelling develops.
For Knee-High Compression Socks
1. Ankle Circumference
Measure around the narrowest part of the ankle, just above the ankle bone.
2. Calf Circumference
Measure around the widest part of the calf.
3. Leg Length
Measure from the floor to the bend behind your knee.
Compare these measurements to the sizing chart for the specific brand, as sizing varies by manufacturer.
For Thigh-High Compression Stockings
Measure:
- Ankle circumference
- Widest part of the calf
- Widest part of the thigh
- Distance from floor to gluteal fold (top of thigh)
Types of Compression Socks We Offer
Knee-High Compression Socks
The most common style, providing support from the foot to just below the knee.
Ideal for:
- Everyday wear
- Swelling
- Travel
- Varicose veins
Thigh-High Compression Stockings
Provide additional support above the knee for more advanced circulation concerns.
Open-Toe Compression Socks
Designed for easier application and improved comfort in warmer climates or with certain footwear.
Closed-Toe Compression Socks
Traditional style that provides full-foot coverage.
Athletic Compression Socks
Support muscles and circulation during exercise and recovery.
Diabetic Compression Socks
Designed with comfort features such as seamless toes and non-binding tops while providing gentle support.
Fashion and Everyday Styles
Available in various colors, patterns, and materials to fit your lifestyle.
Tips for Wearing Compression Socks
